COMMEMORATIVE QUILTS TOURING THE UNITED STATES FOR SANDWICH GENERATION MONTH
(see photos, left)

Erdenheim, Pennsylvania, July 2007 – GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE, the world’s oldest multinational, non-medical home care company, announces the upcoming national tour of their 25th Anniversary Commemorative Quilts, each lovingly comprised of 10” square patches designed and crafted by people most affected by home care, from the 17 U.S. States where GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE offices are located. These quilts serve as a tribute to the Sandwich Generation, Clients, Caregivers, Directors, Client families, referral sources and others associated with home care, as well as a reminder to all Americans of the impact home care has had upon the lives of older adults and those living with disabilities. These quilts also represent the warmth, security and peace of mind that quality home care provides, to all of those who will be able to see them on display as they tour the nation on loan to major hospitals, assisted living facilities, physician’s offices and other organizations, as community outreach and to build awareness of the benefits of home care.

Sponsored by GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE, the quilts also commemorate the establishment of Sandwich Generation Month as a tribute to the 25th Anniversary of Jean Griswold’s founding of GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE, as a result of which she revolutionized the home care industry, which until that time had offered few options for older persons and those living with a disability. Today, GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE is a national leader in the home care industry with 90 offices in 17 states: Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and Virginia, as well as operations in South Korea and Mexico.

Organizations interested in hosting one of the Commemorative Quilts for display as a tribute to the Sandwich Generation may contact their local office of GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE, or the corporate headquarters in Erdenheim, Pennsylvania, at 215-402-0200.

JULY IS SANDWICH GENERATION MONTH

PHILADELPHIA, PA – JULY 2007 – July is now Sandwich Generation Month, a month of awareness to commemorate and celebrate the dedication, patience and caring of adults who are part of the Sandwich Generation--those caring for their children as well as their own aging parents. Sandwich Generation Month is officially registered within the National Special Events Registry as an annual national observation, occurring each July 1-31. Events will be held throughout the United States in upcoming annual commemorations of the national observation, as part of most of which the public is invited to participate in scheduled events and celebration.

“In coming years and as public awareness grows, Sandwich Generation Month will bring the community and families together to heighten understanding of the special needs of the Sandwich Generation, as well as to spotlight community support available to those working so hard to maintain multi-generational families,” says Fiona Middleton, Vice President of Sandwich Generation Month national sponsor, GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE. “We will also celebrate the hard work, compassion, patience and dedication of the Sandwich Generation members, those actively providing care for both children and their aging parents.”

According to the Pew Research Center, just over 1 of every 8 Americans aged 40 to 60 is both raising a child and caring for a parent in addition to between 7 million adults caring for their aging parents from a long distance. US Census Bureau statistics indicate that the number of older Americans aged 65 or older will double by the year 2030, to over 70 million.

“Despite the everyday struggles and exhaustion associated with caring for children under age 21 and aging parents, members of the Sandwich Generation have gracefully continued their care of those closest to them,” says Ms. Middleton. “Many of these family caregivers are completely unaware of the support and options available to them, whether they need a break for hours or 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. It is time for communities to work together to aid in support and care of our aging population.

Sandwich Generation Month originated from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, our own nation’s City of Independence. The commemoration is actively growing and catching on in communities coast-to-coast. Visit www.SandwichGenerationMonth.com for more information about Sandwich Generation Month, or call Fiona Middleton, Vice President of GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE, at 215.402.0200.
